Adhesives

Dispersion glues

Dispersion is a mixture of substances in which a solid is finely dispersed in a liquid. In the case of dispersion adhesives, the binding agents (synthetic resins) are therefore not dissolved in water, but dispersed, i.e. the resin particles (solid) are very finely distributed in water (liquid). Dispersion adhesives are often based on polyvinyl acetate (= PVAc), copolymers or polyacrylate. They are also called white glue.
They are applied on one side and must be joined while still wet. Bonding is achieved only when the water has disappeared, i.e. has been absorbed by the substrate (or the air). When using dispersions, one of the substrates therefore has to be absorbent (e.g. wood, paper, cardboard, leather, textile etc.) and the parts to be joined must be fixed / pressed until the adhesive has set.
We supply the complete wholesale range of PLANATOL adhesives - fanbinding glue, block glue, laminating glue, casing-in glue etc. as well as our own brand PräTack.

Hotmelt jelly (protein glue)

Protein glues are mainly used for the production of book cases, automatic laminating works as well as for manual paper processing. Hotmelt jelly is characterized by its high initial adhesion even before it is finally dried. It dries out flexibly and tension-free, papers do not swell and curl. Hotmelt jelly is also bio-degradable.
A notable example are our PräMelt jellies, which have been especially developed for the production of book cases. PräMelt OT 24 Digital is particularly suitable for digitally printed covers and genuine photo papers. Thanks to its high adhesion, turned-in edges will not re-erect even when processing photo paper. PräMelt OT 30 Universal is suitable for almost all common cover materials and can be used for both manual and machine processing.
PräMelt jellies are perfect for use in our PräziCoat and PräziCoat Pro gluing machines in combination with our PräziCase Pro casemaker.

EVA hotmelts

Thanks to their attractive price-performance ratio, hotmelt adhesives produced on the basis of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) are used for a large number of standard applications. They are characterized by short open and setting times and have an excellent adhesion, even on difficult surfaces. Ideal for large volumes or short setting times.

PO hotmelts

Polyolefin (PO)-based hotmelt adhesives are used where EVA hotmelts reach their limitis with respect to durability, but where PUR is not yet required. Compared to conventional EVA hotmelts, they offer a higher performance, e.g. a higher heat resistance, an improved adhesion spectrum or a better low-temperature flexibility. The group of PO-based hotmelts is also the most frequently used type for glue for spray applications.
We supply the PLANAMELT range by Planatol. PLANAMELT hotmelts are versatile, can handle difficult papers and are suitable for any binding work. PLANAMELT ensures process reliability and is isocyanate-free and easy to recycle. The low application quantity and savings in maintenance and cleaning of the machines ensure a high economic efficiency.

PUR hotmelts

PUR adhesives are reactive hotmelt adhesives based on polyurethane. High-strength connections may be obtained with them. After applying the reactive PUR hotmelt, it first sets physically and then reacts chemically with the air humidity available. PUR-based adhesives offer high heat resistance and high resistance to other chemicals.

Natural glues for conservation

Animal glues
Glutin glues are water-soluble, natural adhesives that are obtained from animal waste by boiling. This creates a jelly called glue. The main ingredient glutin is a mixture of substances similar to gelatine. According to the basic material, glutin glues are divided into bone glue, hide glue, rabbit-skin glue, fish glue and sturgeon glue.
Especially cleaned glutin glue is known as gelatine and is used for conservation.

Vegetable glues
Traditional glues on vegetable basis are starches (mostly as powder) made of cereals for the production of starch paste. It is an important adhesive for paper and cardboard in restoration and conservation.
In addition to the classic rice and wheat starch, we also offer the special Japanese wheat starch Shofu.
The algae glue FuNori also belongs to the vegetable glues, which is particularly suitable for gluing fibres during  the production of very tear-resistant paper or cracks during the restoration of paintings.

Cellulose-based glues
Cellulose adhesives are also often used for conservation. They are extremely difficult to attack by microorganisms, are physiologically harmless and water-soluble.
Glutofix, for example, is a cold water-soluble, preservative- and solvent-free methyl cellulose paste.
Another product in this range is Tylose MH (methylhydroxyethyl cellulose), which is used, for example, for reversible, flexible bonds and for gluing paper as well as for bonding and fixing of water-sensitive products.
We also supply Klucel G (hydroxypropyl cellulose). Dissolved in cold water, it is appropriate for fixing dyes; dissolved in solvents it is appropriate for products sensitive to water, e. g. for fixing and impregnating leathers sensitive to water and for gluing papers sensitive to moisture.
