Wenn Sie Buchschnitte vergolden möchten, gibt es eine Alternative zum Vergolden mit Blattgold: Die Vergoldung mit der Goldschnittrolle und einer Buchschnittfolie, die mittels Hitze aufgetragen wird. Die Goldschnittrolle ist ein Gerät, welches das Veredeln vom Buchschnitt stark vereinfacht. Mit Hilfe einer beheizten Rolle, Druck und dem Einsatz von thermisch reaktiver Folie können so die offenen Seiten eines Buches veredelt werden. Beim Anrollen der Folie mit der Goldschnittrolle löst sich die Folie durch Hitze und Druck vom Trägermaterial und wird so auf den Buchschnitt übertragen. So entstehen spiegelnd glänzende Gold- oder Silberschnitte. Es können dadurch nicht nur Buchblocks, sondern auch Visitenkarten und andere Produkte aus Papier und Karton einfach und sauber vergoldet werden.
Wichtig: Zum Betrieb wird zwingend ein externer Thermostat benötigt. Sie müssen hier nicht unseres bzw. ein neues kaufen, wenn Sie bereits eins besitzen (z.B. von einer PräGnant).
Anschließen der Goldschnittrolle
Die Goldschnittrolle ist mit einer elektrischen Heizung ausgestattet und muss mit einem externen Thermostatregler betrieben werden, da es sonst zu einer Überhitzung des Gerätes kommt. Eine Überhitzung führt zum Ablösen des Silikonbelages von der Walze. Wir verkaufen einen Thermostaten, der mit einem Drehknopf und Skala ausgestattet und für die Nutzung mit der Goldschnittrolle geeignet ist. Der Thermostat kann als Zubehör erworben werden.
Die sicherste Methode, um eine Beschädigung des Geräts zu vermeiden, besteht darin, sie langsam auf die gewünschte Stufe zu erhitzen (normalerweise etwa 6-7), wie in der Anleitung beschrieben. Dies kann einige Zeit in Anspruch nehmen. Auf jeden Fall müssen Sie nach jeder Änderung der Einstellung mindestens 10 Minuten warten, bis sich die Walze auf die neue Temperatur erwärmt hat.
Der Thermostat darf niemals - auch nicht zum schnelleren Anheizen - voll aufgedreht werden, da die Hitze im Inneren des Kerns entsteht und nur verzögert nach außen weitergegeben wird. Wenn Sie den optimale Einstellung gefunden haben, so notieren Sie diesen Wert für zukünftige Anweisungen, damit dieser nicht noch einmal aufwendig ermittelt werden muss.
Pflege und Lagerung
Verunreinigungen des Gummibelages dürfen keinesfalls mit einem scharfen oder spitzen Gegenstand entfernt werden, da sich eine Verletzung der glatten Oberfläche zwangsläufig in schlechter Vergoldequalität bemerkbar macht.
Eine Schmierung der Lagerflächen ist nicht notwendig und sollte auch im Interesse der Sauberkeit unterbleiben. Bei der Lagerung ist darauf zu achten, dass die Rolle nicht längere Zeit auf dem Gummibelag aufliegt, da es sonst zu Verformungen der Oberfläche kommen kann.

It is normal that the roller takes 1 hour to heat up to a temperature of 160º, and thus to be able to work optimally? I consider this to be a long time.
It is also possible to set the thermostat to maximum for heating. However, there is a risk that the core of the roll gets too hot (it should never be heated above 200 °C, otherwise the rubber will start to break down), so we do not recommend this procedure. If you do this, the temperature must be constantly monitored to avoid overheating.
Does the thermostat have to be switched off when the roller has reached the target temperature?

Can I also use real gold foil on my books?
When do I need to use the edge gilding primer?
As a side note: Primer for hand gilding (pure real gold, not a heat-sensitive foil) is not suitable for use with heat-sensitive (hot-stamping) foil, because the foil has heat-sensitive adhesive included, which is not compatible with that kind of primer.
How much pressure do I need to apply with the roller?
In the past, our foil that we sold required quite a lot of force to apply. Since December 2021, our edge gilding foil is much easier to apply.
If you are not using our old foil (or other foil such as hot stamping foil), a high amount of pressure may be required to make the foil stick. Therefore, you might have to place the edge gilding roll in your shoulder and really apply high pressure. Try to roll over repeatedly from different angles (e.g. flat, slight left angle, slight right angle). Once you think you are and feel like the book has been covered, carefully lift the foil and if you see it has not applied everywhere put it down and fix it to the same position to go over the parts that did not hold with the gilding roll again (if you were to use new foil, this would result in two layers of foil in some parts, which are visible in the end).
